When you research online, you will find many websites that refer to reverse mortgages. To help you wade through all of the many resources, here are several links to websites that should help you easily find additional information:
FHA Reverse Mortgage & Home Equity Conversion Mortgage Housing Counselor Lists.
(www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hecm/hecmlist.cfm). This page provides you with a listing of qualified HECM Counselors for your State. Click on the link button that says "Information by State" at the top of the right-hand column. It will take you to another page and you then can click on your State.
HUD Reverse Mortgage Guide to HECMs.
(http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfh/hecm/hecmhome.cfm). The only reverse mortgage insured by the U.S. Federal Government called a Home Equity Conversion Mortgage or HECM.
HUD Reverse Mortgage Handbook 4235.1 REV-1.
(www.hud.gov/offices/adm/hudclips/handbooks/hsgh/4235.1/index.cfm). This is the basic program handbook for the HECM program. However, it was published in 1994, and some of the key program rules have changed since then, as explained in later HUD mortgagee letters, HECM regulations, and amendments to the HECM statute.
